Every student at CHC has access to assistance with reading, writing, and effective study strategies anytime and anywhere they need it. Crafton Hills College makes Read & Write, a literacy software program, is available in student labs and for all students to download to their own computers, or install in their Chrome browser. There are many features of this program that will help you with, reading and understanding your textbooks, writing your papers and studying course materials.

Writing Features

• Assists with beginning to write research papers
• Includes dictionary and picture dictionary
• Vocabulary List Builder, Verb Checker, and Sounds like/Confusable words, e.g., write and right
• Fact Folder keeps the facts you have found while researching and creates a document you can save.
• Fact Mapper is great for brainstorming and organizing your paper

Reading Features

• Assists with proof reading papers • Reads aloud your papers, PDF’s, websites, and anything on your computer screen
• Different voices (Male and Female, Accents) 
• Tailor the pitch and speech of the voice
• Highlight only the text you want read out loud

Study Skills Strategies

• Collects facts for your paper or assignments by using different highlighting colors • Colors are used to categorize your information, e.g., blue for presidents, yellow for time in office, pink for vice president
• Can be saved into a word document for reference
• Also aids with learning how to cite in MLA, APA, and Harvard format
