Girls outshine boys as JKBOSE declares Class XII results for summer zone

Despite unprecedented challenges posed by the spread of Covid-19 pandemic and consequent lockdowns, 77 per cent students passed the exams as Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) declared the Class XII results for the summer zone on Sunday.
Girls have again outshone the boys (73%) with a pass percentage of 82%. A total of 33,779 candidates appeared in the examinations, which were conducted at 316 centres. Out of the total, 26,139 passed the exams.
In the science stream, the first position was shared by five students with 98.6 per cent —Anshul Thakur from Government Model Higher Secondary School (Basohli), Kritika Sharma of SP Higher Secondary School (Jammu), Reeba Shamim Malik of International Higher Secondary School (Rajouri), Stanzin Sharab of Government Girls Higher Secondary School (Mubarak Mandi) and Tania Gupta of GGHSS (Udhampur). Eighty-one students were in the top-10 in the science stream.
In the commerce stream, Kriti from Shiksha Niketan Higher Secondary School topped the merit list with 98.4 per cent, while Tanisha Jain of GGHSS (Mubarak Mandi) excelled in home science with 85.8 per cent.
Ritika Sharma of Shiksha Niketen Higher Secondary School (Jeevan Nagar) secured the first position in the arts stream with 99 per cent.
“Though most of the papers were conducted as scheduled, the examination in some subjects could not be held due to the threat of Covid-19 pandemic. Considering the academic career and interest of the students, JKBOSE has awarded marks in these according to the ‘proportionate marks scheme’ as was decided by its academic committee,” an official of JKBOSE said.
The official added, “For those students to whom the result declared as per proportionate marks scheme is not acceptable, a separate notification will be issued within two days allowing them to opt for a special examination.”
