Disable Compression (ZIP) when Downloading from Google Drive? 1 Recommended Answer 28 Replies742 Upvotes
I have a very large folder in Drive. When attempting to download entire folder, there's an automatic process to ZIP folder first. There's no option found to bypass this. My files within the folder are already compressed in another format. Regardless, this is a complete waste of time and I just want to download the folder from the browser as-is. Is there any way to do that?

I've found a workaround. I downloaded the Google drive application to sync the data to the computer. Worked fine with no issues 👍

While compression may be part of the zipping process, that is not the actual reason for using a zipped archive.
In any case the only way to bypass the zipping to archive is to have a very small number of files to download.

Yes, if you use the Backup & Sync app that will do so as well. You had not stated that you wanted to actually install an app that would constantly monitor and sync any data changes to/from your cloud.

but google sync is buggy and dangerous on windows, it will sync folders you specifically tell it not to.
Can't we just download a folder without waiting literally hours for it to pointlessly compress it?!?

Dropping the service after this, it's nonsense having to wait 30 minutes for a shitty compression of photos that is already in JPG.
