FISU University World Cup Football
The 2019 edition
The KELME 2019 FISU University World Cup Football set the bar high with its inaugural edition in Jinjiang, Fujian Province, from 21 November to 1 December 2019. Following the immense success of the format in 3x3 Basketball four years ago, the tournament paved the way for the future of university-versus-university competition in the world’s most popular sport.
Sixteen of the best men’s teams and eight women’s teams had booked their ticket to China through five continental qualifying tournaments that were held through 2018. There were also quotas allotted to Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) for home teams, as well as two wildcard teams in both the men’s and women’s draw. After two weeks of scintillating action, the University of Ottawa in Canada and the University of the Republic in Uruguay won the women's and men's titles, respectively.
